Bought at border for USD 30 per visa.

Arrival
From Botswana
About 90 minutes. Charged for road tax (USD 10) and carbon tax/insurance (USD 60).

From Mozambique
About 45 min. incl. purchase of visa. Carbon tax (USD 30) and road tax (USD 10) had to be paid. Quick check of the car.

Departure
To South Africa (Beitbridge)
We had to pay USD 9 exit tax. Exit was smooth (15 min). Passports and carnet checked without questions.​

To Botswana
5 min. Carnet stamped without inspection.

Stamped without checking car.

Insurance
Mandatory bought a border at entry from Botswana. At entry from Mozambique our statement that we had the TourInsure insurance was sufficient; it was not checked.

Money
No own currency. Everything in USD and a little bit of rand (mainly coins). USD is dispensed by ATMs.

Diesel
Far apart on minor roads, in urban areas widely available. About USD 1.25 per liter.

Corruption

• We had no incidents. When we left Zimbabwe our travel companions were given the option to wait three hours for a thorough inspection of their car with dogs or to pay USD 50. When they started to play up they were waved through.
• We got one documented  ticket for a traffic rule violation that we didn't commit.

Roads
Generally reasonable. Larger poor sections in north Zimbabwe.
